The 5 - S Philosophy

Welcome Back!!!

In today's post, I will be going to discuss about the Japanese 5-S philosophy. Japan was devastated after WWII. To make things better, they developed the 5-S philosophy.

This philosophy helps us to manage time more efficiently, do things right and do right things. It also helps us to be organised and disciplined.

Concept of 5-S

1. Seri(Segregation):
  • Seri means putting things in the order of priority.
  • Make a list of all that you have.
  • Identify and segregate what you need: Constantly, Occasionally, Rarely and Never.
  • If you feel something has to be used randomly, segregate it separately.
2. Seiton(Arrangement):

Now arrange the segregated things:
  • Create a place for things as per your list.
  • Place things that you need constantly as close to you as possible.
  • Place things that you need occasionally a little further.
  • Place things that you need rarely in a safe place still further.
  • Pack and place the things that you may need in future in a safe place.
3. Seiso(Cleaning):
  • Clean your workplace thoroughly.
  • Keep all the storage places clean and shinning.
4. Seiketsu(Maintenance):
  • Once you have done segregation, arrangement of things, cleaning up, maintain your workspace by 'servicing' it.
  • Even if you have place for everything and keep everything in place, with use, things do get mixed up.
  • So, don't forget to 'service' or maintain your workspace.
5. Shitsuke(Discipline):
  • To appreciate and implement the previous 4-S, you would need a disciplined mind. Stick to 4-S till it becomes a habit.
  • Your workspace, your desk, your room and the furnishings should be properly arranged, clean and shinning.
  • As you move towards your goal, these practices will make you efficient and you will be valued more. You will be preferred above all. People will perceive you as efficient and effective.

Thought of the day:

"Efficiency is the foundation for survival. Effectiveness is the foundation for success."

'Today' is his 🎁 unto you

Welcome back πŸ˜€ ! Have you ever wondered why people like handmade gifts above all other gifts? The answer to this question is simple - You/They recognise the heart behind the gift and that makes the gift priceless . "A gift is not a material, but an outlook - to look out at the heart behind the material." -Mahatria Rā Even if the present is just a handmade flower or a greeting card, it would be one of the best gifts you would have ever got. Similarly , Education becomes a gift when you recognise the heart of the teachers who transfer their knowledge unto you . Your childhood becomes a gift when you recognise the heart of your parents in the upbringing. Friends become a gift when they stand by you not only in your good times but also in your tough times. Life becomes a gift when you realise its preciousness and its importance. In that sense, "Today" becomes an eternal gift . Always keep in mind that you may not live to see the "Tomorrow"...

Ego never accepts the truth

Welcome Back! Everyone goes through this phase of life where the ego drives one to do anything and everything only to get noticed and recognised . It is a phase when good is good only when it gains attention; even bad is good if it can draw attention . Also, good is bad when it fails to gain attention. Ego survives on gaining attention. However, one must outgrow that phase of life. Ego needs feeding ; and hence it is regarded as a beggar . The problem with ego is that when ego is fed , you struggle with the superiority complex , and when ego is starved, you suffer with the inferiority complex . It destroys your peace of mind. People have lost many precious relationships while trying to satisfy their ego. They should have sacrificed their ego, but they didn’t. Remember, Ego is never worth the losses. People have also lost many golden opportunities while they were servicing their ego. They should have done the other way, but they could not. Ego destroys your freedom of choice. There i...
